Benefits^

  • Restore microbial balance in the gut

  • Stimulate digestive fire

  • Promote a balanced response to stress

Key botanicals

Burdock and Dandelion root contain the prebiotic fibre inulin that supports a healthy microbiome in the gut. Research has shown that an unhealthy microbiome is linked to depression and anxiety and that inulin acts through inflammation and neurotransmitter pathways. (1, 2)

Ashwagandha is an adaptogen that has been used traditionally for balancing the body’s response to stress and for general vitality and well-being. It has been found to promote sleep, boost mood and to reduce anxiety. (3)

Aromatic spices such as ginger, cinnamon and glove are warming and calming to the digestive system.

Suggested use

This tea is suited to those wanting to support their gut microflora with prebiotics and to stimulate their digestive fire. ^

For 1 cup of tea add 1/3 cup milk (or alternative) and 2/3 cup water in a pot and add 1 heaped tablespoon Root Gut Chai blend. Allow to steep on the lowest setting until it looks a deep tan colour. Strain into a cup and add honey or sweetener of choice.

Key botanicals

Aniseed Myrtle is an Australian rainforest tree with a sweet fennel/liquorice flavour. It has been traditionally used to support digestion and for coughs and colds. Its primary constituent trans-anethole can help manage cortisol levels, support the body with low mood and anxiety, protect the brain and support mental clarity (1).

Native Lemongrass is an Australian native grass from the warmer climates with a mild lemony scent. Used traditionally for colds, chest tightness, muscle cramps and headaches this relative of the Asian Lemongrass can also support digestive health. Because its anxiety and stress related benefits are best inhaled, this makes it a wonderful addition to your cup of tea. (2)

Turmeric and ginger are both pungent warming herbs that give a sense of glowing from the inside out. Both have anti-inflammatory properties and can aid in digestive support and to soothe the gut. Turmeric also has antidepressant properties that are attributed to its primary constituent curcumin which acts on multiple level as an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and metabolism support. (3)

Tulsi or Holy Basil from India has been revered as a mild adaptogen to support the body to manage stress, to uplift the mood and clear the mind. This gentle herb acts to support the gut-brain-immune triad. This wonderful plant and delicious tea deserves a spot in every garden and as a daily tea ritual. (4)
